Dr. Barron and Dr. Fernandes Named the Official Ophthalmologists for LA Tech Athletics
The physicians at The Eye Clinic of Monroe, Dr. Joseph Barron and Dr. Joshua Fernandes, were recently appointed the official Ophthalmologists for the Louisiana Tech University Athletics Department. They join an elite group of physicians (called the "Docs for Dogs") in the LA Tech Sports Medicine Program to provide eye care for the 368 student-athletes involved in the athletics programs at Tech.
Both Dr. Barron and Dr. Fernandes have strong ties to LA Tech and are excited to accept this position. Dr. Barron is an alumnus of LA Tech and former member of the LA Tech men's basketball team from 1962-1965. Dr. Fernandes, a native of Ruston, has been a lifelong Tech fan. His father was a chemical engineering professor at LA Tech and his mother helped found a masters program at LA Tech for teachers of blind and visually-impaired students.
As fellowship trained eye specialists, Drs. Barron and Fernandes are experienced in managing a full range of eye conditions from routine eye exams to treatment of complex eye conditions such as sports trauma, diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, glaucoma, corneal disorders, and cataracts.
